Design firms and departments mostly deal with sketches, drawings and presentations in a hybrid way: the analogue medium of paper, pen(-cil) and marker integrated with the digital medium of sketches in Painter, Sketchbook Pro or Photoshop.
In the Bachelor stages of IO, drawing courses focus on comprehension, methodology and motor, in order to subsequently be able to make the first steps to the digital medium in the Desvis course (3rd year elective). During the course Computer sketching, students execute all process and drawings steps on a digital canvas, using an available (Wacom) drawing tablet and Corel Painter software. Students are taught how to apply efficient steps: to start with fast line sketches, then transfer the line drawing into volumes by adding large brush effects, before turning to details. This course prepares students for working in design practice, and builds on prior knowledge and skills of analogue drawings and visualizations. Download the brochure here. |
